This Sankey Diagram shows a visual timeline depicting when edits happened in the Pernkopf Atlases. Within this data visualization, there were three sources of images in the original atlas that had Nazi iconography that was published in the 1st Printing of the English editions in 1962, Erster Band, Zweiter Band, and Dritter Band.
Other notable data bytes:
The first Nazi icons were swastikas that Erich Lepier added to the R in his last name when signing his name and they were present in the very first printing in 1937. In 1937, it was illegal to display Nazi icons in Austria.
The first edits happened in 1943 when Erster Band and Zweiter Band were re-printed a second time. The first printing of Ester Band was in 1937 and the first printing of Zweiter Band was in 1941. Both were reprinted in 1943. There is evidence of a second printing in 1943 where the swastika in Lepier’s signature had been altered on the lithograph plates. There were seven of these images and the swastika reappeared with the images when they were published in the English editions of the atlases in 19
