Welcome to my ePortfolio for the HETC from HarvardX.
My portfolio is a brief snapshot of some of the methods, means, and philosophies that I use to approach my teaching at Mohawk Valley Community College. As a community college professor, I am dedicated to creating a supportive learning environment for every student in my courses. Enclosed in this portfolio is a sample of the means of accomplishing that task.
Documents:
- Teaching Philosophy: This short narrative describe the pillars I consider most important to creating a cohesive and effective classroom and course experience.
- Active Learning Lesson Plan: This lesson is an example of using a think/pair/share to improve active participation in an anatomy course. The goal is to develop critical thinking skills to solve case studies by exposing students to the thought processes of other students in the class in a low stakes manner.
- Critical Thinking – Real World Problem Solving Lesson Plan: This lesson is an example of using active learning to teach students critical thinking skills while using case studies to diagnose upper versus lower motor neuron deficits.
- Sample Assignment – Neuroimaging: This assignment includes the use of small group work to scaffold the early learning outcomes which allows for rounds of formative assessment before the class generates a wiki resource for the class to use as a resource for the rest of the semester.
- Sample Syllabus: This syllabus is a revision of a course that I teach, neuroanatomy. There were significant revisions to be able to elaborate on the assignments and how they are related to the course learning outcomes and definitions of student success.
